Counseling

Welcome

Dexter High School counselors strive to provide high quality, comprehensive school counseling services to all students. Our program, as guided by the ASCA National Model, is designed to help all students develop and enhance their academic, career, and personal/social strengths in order to become responsible and productive citizens. There is a commitment to individual uniqueness and the maximum development of human potential. Through the skillful use of strategic, timely, and personal interventions, counselors customize educational experiences in order to enhance capabilities, close achievement gaps among high and low performing groups and support positive choices.

Please note: Due to tight schedules meeting with students, all visitors must make an appointment to speak with a counselor.

In this video, Ursula Anderson, the program coordinator for Seriously Dexter, discusses the importance of increasing connections between youth, their schools, families, and communities. She provides insights into vaping trends, including statistics from the Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth survey. We explore the perception of risk and ease of access to marijuana and tobacco among students. Additionally, she explains what vapes are, their components, and the potential risks associated with vaping. She also touches on the adolescent brain development process and how to have open conversations with teens about substance use. Finally, she introduces the Seriously Safe Homes program, which promotes substance-free environments and provides resources for mental health discussions with youth.
