Student Office Procedures
Please plan ahead to avoid delays!
Absences and Late Arrivals:
Students may be excused by a parent message on the attendance line within 24 hours of the absence or tardy. Please call 734 424-4240, and select Option #1. Please allow 24 hours for attendance to be reconciled in PowerSchool.
Late Arrival and Early Dismissal Procedures:
- Students arriving after the beginning of the school day, or departing before the end of the school day, must sign in or out in the office. Students must have permission before leaving the building.
- Failure to sign in or out will result in an unexcused absence.
Early Dismissal Passes:
- Students leaving during the school day need to obtain a pass from the office prior to the start of the class that they are leaving.
- Students should bring a note to the office before their first class with the following information : the date, the time the student should be dismissed from class, whether or not the student will be returning to school, and a parent contact number and signature. PLEASE PRINT THE STUDENT’S FIRST AND LAST NAME.
- A pass will be issued to the student, which should be signed by the teacher at the time that the student is dismissed from class.
- The student needs to bring that pass to the office, check-in with a secretary, and then sign out on the computer.
Helpful Information:
- Students are allowed to use cell phones between classes and at lunch.
- Students who are ill should come to the office to call home.
- A table is available in the office for items that are dropped off for students during the school day. Students should check the table between classes or at lunch if they are expecting a drop-off.
- Students are not permitted to go to their cars during the school day.
- DHS is a Closed Campus. Students are not permitted to leave for lunch.
- Food deliveries from restaurants (pizza, subs, etc.) are prohibited.
Parking
By filling out this parking form and returning it to Dexter High School, parents(s)/guardian(s), and students are stating that you have read the rules and regulations covering student driving and parking, and agree with the regulations as stated. You are also certifying that the student is properly licensed by the State of Michigan, and will comply with the school administrators and support staff concerning parking/driving at Dexter High School and other schools within the district.
Detention/Saturday School
What is Saturday School?
Saturday school is assigned as a consequence for disciplinary infractions.
How are Students and Parents Notified About Saturday School Assignments?
- If a student is assigned a Saturday School due to excessive tardiness (6 or more) or for unexcused absences, the student will be informed by the classroom teacher and then the student will also receive notification from the office. The parent will be mailed a copy of the Saturday School slip.
- If a student receives a Saturday School related to a disciplinary situation, they are informed by the administration; they receive a slip from the office; a copy is mailed home; the parents are informed by the administration during the disciplinary communication (phone call or email) depending on the availability of the parent or guardian.
Who Supervises Saturday School?
Generally, a DHS staff member supervises Saturday School. In the event of an emergency, an administrator or an administrative assistant will supervise.
Driver's Ed
Dexter Community Schools does not offer driver's education classes. There are several local driver's ed providers, including one who hosts courses at Dexter High School. We can't provide endorsements for any of them, but parents and students are a good source of referrals. Several of these independent companies offer scholarships if this is a financial burden for your family.

Please note: Information on individual treatment providers was gathered by Care Solace based on criteria such as geographic proximity, whether the provider accepts the authorized user’s insurance, and whether the provider is accepting new patients. The school district does not recommend, endorse, promote, or refer to any of the individual treatment providers.
